Welcome to the Institute of Mathematical Sciences and Physics!

The Institute of Mathematical Sciences and Physics (IMSP) is one of the six National Centers of Excellence in the Basic Sciences (NCOE), created on March 23, 1983 by Presidential Decree No. 1416 through Executive Order No. 889, to help advance science and technology in the country, and specifically, to strengthen and broaden the national capability to train scientific leaders and conduct research in the basic sciences.

IMSP's Graduate Programs

The MS Mathematics and MS Physics programs of IMSP are designed to deepen the understanding of students in these fields and develop their skills in performing advanced research.

New! MS Physics Program

The UP Board of Regents (BOR) in their 1351st meeting last May 21, 2020 approved the institution of the Master of Science in Physics program that was put forward by the Physics Division, Institute of Mathematical Sciences and Physics (IMSP).  The institute will be offering the new graduate program starting the 1st Semester AY 2020-2021. This is the first MS Physics program to be offered in the CALABARZON region. FULL STORY

Newly Revised! MS Math Program

The Master of Science in Mathematics (MS Math) is designed for those who wanted to pursue advanced knowledge in mathematics and with the intent to go to the academe, industry research, college teaching, and related fields. Students of the program are trained to acquire the mastery of mathematics and intellectual independence.  The main feature of the revised MS Math program is the inclusion of three tracks: (1) Pure Mathematics, (2) Applied Mathematics, and (3) Mathematics Education. Dr. Rabajante: Modelling the Pandemic

Dr. Jomar F. Rabajante is a familiar face in mainstream and social media today as he is one of the known experts in the country modelling the COVID-19 pandemic. Because of his reputation as a good modeler, his and the UPLB Biomathematics Research team studies are considered by policy makers in crafting national policies to battle COVID-19,  making him a preference among newscasters and influencers as he shares his insights on how to “flatten the curve”. IMSP COVID-19 Response Fabrication Laboratory in Action

The Institute of Mathematical Sciences and Physics in partnership with the Philippine Australian Alumni Association, Inc. Outbreak Threshold Calculator and Transmission Simulator

With the easing of quarantine measures in the country, businesses start to operate under strict guidelines. However, in the absence of a vaccine and intensive mass testing, another wave of infection is looming. To provide a strategy to minimize the risk of COVID-19 infection in a company, the Actuarial Team of the Institute crafted two tools— the outbreak threshold calculator and disease transmission simulator.
