The Samahang Pisika ng Pilipinas (SPP), in collaboration with the Institute of Mathematical Sciences and Physics (IMSP), conducted an online Physics Education Workshop on Tracker Video Analysis for Classical Mechanics Experiments last September 25, 2021.
Dr. Eduardo C. Cuansing Jr., President of SPP and a professor in IMSP, formally started program in which he introduced SPP as an organization and emphasized that one of its missions is to work for the continuous upgrading of Physics education at all levels in the country. True to its goal, this webinar on physics education is created.
The speaker, Prof. Arvin Lester Jusi, an Assistant Professor in IMSP, first introduced Tracker, a video analysis and modeling tool, and its advantages over other application to conduct experiments involving classical mechanics. He emphasized that Tracker, which is designed to be used in physics education, can be easily used during remote teaching and learning. The experiments featured are doable at home. He then illustrated how to use the said tool, how it can be used in online teaching and showed other features that can be helpful to the teachers and students. A practice exercise was also given to the participants to have a hands-on experience followed by an open forum.
“Our institute is enthusiastic with regard to hosting this webinar which is indeed timely and helpful for physics teachers nationwide,” said Dr. Editha Jose, the IMSP Director, as she thanked the organizers, headed by Dr. Ranzivelle Marianne Roxas-Villanueva, Chair of the SPP Physics Education Committee, and the over 120 participants in workshop. “We are faced with the challenge of delivering our laboratory courses and experiments effectively. As such, innovative and creative set-ups in teaching are needed,” she added.
