IMSP COVID-19 Response Fabrication Laboratory in Action
The Institute of Mathematical Sciences and Physics in partnership with the Philippine Australian Alumni Association, Inc. (PA3i) Southern Tagalog Chapter has started producing PPEs (face shields, ear guards, filter adaptor for snorkel masks, endoscope splash guards) and is in the process of prototyping ventilator splitters to help COVID-19 treating hospitals. We call the initiative as the IMSP COVID-19 Response Team Fabrication Laboratory (IMSP Fab Lab). We are now working under the Committee for Technology and Facility Innovation of the UPLB Task Force Laban ng Bayan Kontra COVID-19.
As of this writing, the IMSP Fab Lab has distributed hundreds of face shields and ear guards to the UPLB skeletal force and private hospitals in Laguna. Specialized medical accessories like filter adaptors for snorkel masks and endoscope splash guards were also given to doctors in nearby private hospitals. Laser cutting and 3D printing technologies are being used to fabricate these PPEs.
